New Solutions Require New Technology
The case for taking incremental steps to implementing a new database foundation: How can breakthrough solutions be built on 25 year old technology? It seems hard to imagine, yet many newspaper IT departments actually insist on it. They pick a database, like Oracle, and say all innovations that come into our company must run on Oracle. They actually eliminate the possibility of a powerful new solution for their most pressing needs by imposing the limitation of a 25 year old database architecture; one that was invented before there even was an internet.

Liquid Media: The strategic foundation for newspapers to respond to the dramatic changes in news and advertising consumption
The thirst for news has never been greater. However, the way that readers obtain news has changed and is now gained from a larger number of sources including newspapers, the internet, mobile devices and podcasts. Advertisers are also finding that they need to reach consumers in an increasingly demanding and competitive market. The situation has changed in a way that does not always favour print-only newspapers, so what is keeping them from capitalising on an all-time high demand for what they have traditionally delivered – news and advertisements?

Consider some of the possibilities of a Liquid Media architecture:
Could Liquid Media start turning the tables in favor of newspapers? Examine some possible scenarios of a liquid media architecture in application to editorial, advertising, Internet portal, and business analysis strategies...

Ideas for implementing a Liquid Media Architecture:
Newspaper groups can begin reaping the benefits of Liquid Media while they are still using their existing print publishing systems and print-oriented data content silos. Benefits can accrue with an incremental transition beginning with Web Publishing.

The enabling technology behind the Liquid Media solution:
Liquid Media is not just a marketing term. It describes the implementation of completely new and transformational technologies. In the past, the only way to get a unified view of content or business information was to unify it by standardizing on a single, integrated software platform. This is no longer the case, and the difference is a new generation of data management technology.

Scripting Allows DTI's Customers to Automate and Customize Their Systems
To meet the diverse needs of newspapers large and small Digital Technology International solutions are designed to give users control and allow them to customize their own systems through extensive scriptablity.

DTI Web Publishing System
DTI has created a Web Publishing System that brings print and Internet publishing together in an integrated environment. It puts the control of publishing editorial content on Web pages into the hands of the same skilled editors who produce the printed pages. And it does this in such a way that the print and electronic editions of the newspaper can strengthen and compliment each other.

Unify Your Data
When a newspaper uses a production system based on the unified data model, there are productivity and creativity gains today and incremental revenue opportunities for tomorrow.

The Secret of DTI's Quality Implementations
Digital Technology International leads the industry in commitment to quality with its ISO 9001-94 certified Systematic Delivery Process(SM), and has consistently passed the rigorous semi-annual audits. Quality standards for each phase from software development to implementation consistently result in on-time, revenue-enhancing implementations.

Virtual Newspaper Technology
Digital Technology International’s Virtual Newspaper technology enables newspaper groups to easily share stories, editable pages, and spec ads between sites. Physically distributed, but logically unified, DTI’s databases are the key to creating a virtual newsroom.

IFRA Newsplex

The Newsplex is being developed by the Ifra Centre for Advanced News Operations in cooperation with the University of South Carolina's College of Journalism and Mass Communications.

It will be used to educate the next generation of journalists and to evaluate emerging technological advancements that may affect how news is gathered and disseminated in the convergent marketplace of print, radio, television and online media.

DTI has taken the first seat on the Newsplex Directorate by contributing to development and construction of the prototype Newsplex micro-newsroom. DTI and IFRA inaugurate a prestigious industry-academic consortium that is underwriting the facility for training, demonstration and research in next-generation, cross-media newshandling methods and technologies.

As a contributor to the $1.5 million center, DTI will have a seat on the facility's advisory board, take a prominent spokesman role on the future of the industry, and receive preferential access to services and programs.
