PageSpeed is DTI’s all-purpose pagination and editing application used for creating page layouts, header and story fitting, and story editing. DTI has integrated its databases with Adobe InDesign to create a powerful, easy-to-use layout and design product.

DTI’s PageSpeed solution manages stories from creation through production and full-page pagination. The fastest page production application available, PageSpeed is the only page design tool capable of computer-automated pagination due to it use of XML tagging which enables drag and drop layout, and self-composing stories and pages.

PageSpeed integrates the complete feature set of Adobe InDesign into its powerful database environment, giving the page designer the best design tools in the context of a purpose built editorial pagination solution.

A page designer working in PageSpeed would see his InDesign composition window and tool palette in addition to several floating windows for managing content, designs and workflow.

The most prominent of these windows is the Data Center. The PageSpeed Data Center is a window into the database, giving users access to stories, graphics, photos, ads and page layouts from a single location within their production environment. The Data Center unites projects in a meaningful way, so a user can see progress on all the various elements of a page, coming together in a single place. With an intuitive user interface, a designer can rapidly locate and manipulate the information that is needed.

Also prominent in PageSpeed is the Design Center. The Design Center is a library of story and page templates. In addition to storing font, size and other style attributes, these templates are labeled with XML tags which identify a headline frame as a headline, a text frame as text and even a photo frame as a photo. A story–similarly managed with XML tags in the DTI system–which is dropped onto the template immediately assumes the attributes of that design enabling extremely fast and consistent page layout, without compromising design flexibility. The design is still fully editable.

Creating these designs is also very simple. Suppose a designer has created a layout that could be used again. He simply selects the elements, or a group of elements, he wishes to become part of a template, and selects the option to save it as a template. This command saves all of the formatting and design without the content, as a new template in the Design Center.

PageSpeed has a unique collaboration tool called the Message Center. This small floating window allows the designer to instant message fellow users on the system, embed URL type links to stories and elements which will take them right to the information without them having to look for it. The Message Center also facilitates communication between the system and user. For example, a user might receive messages from an output device notifying him of an error, or to let him know a story matching a particular search criteria has come in from the wire.

Most PageSpeed users will have access to the Data Center, Design Center, Search Center, Routing Center, and Plan Centers. However, as some users only require limited access, different user privileges can be assigned by the Editorial Systems staff.

PageSpeed connects directly to DTI’s editorial pagination database, as well as the advertising and graphics management databases. This provides the user easy access to the wire copy, local stories, paginated stories and pages, graphics, photos, ad status, and all other components needed to build the newspaper.

PageSpeed includes a host of other features such as multiple levels of content searching, workflow-based routing, editorial budgeting and management reporting which are discussed in greater detail in product documentation.
