Independent Newspapers selects Web Order Entry System from DTI
An important 24 hr advertising revenue source for the leading Irish newspaper group comes on-line in record time with new Web publishing tools from DTI.

August 21, 2006 (Brentwood, UK) Digital Technology International (DTI) today announces that Independent Newspapers Ireland (lrl) has chosen its ClassSpeed Web Order Entry system, which enables consumers to design, preview and purchase classified ads online at any time. The implementation, which included an extensive redesign of DTI’s Web Order Entry standard templates, still took only twelve weeks to complete.

Independent Newspapers has initiated a number of ‘firsts’ for DTI. It is the first worldwide implementation of Web Order Entry 6.0 on CachÈ – the multi-dimensional database with advanced Internet capabilities. It is also the first time that a DTI advertising system installation has led with its Web enabled tools first.

Gerry Wilde, IT Director at the Irish Independent, said: “There are some important benefits of the DTI system, namely the fact that we are always open to receive ads for both print and Web – this is literally a 24 hour a day, seven day a week and 365 day a year service. We believe that we must provide our customers with the option of booking ads whenever they like, not just when our call center is open. With the roll out of broadband in this country, it will give us the edge to promote our publications via the Web for both private and business customers.

“We chose DTI’s system due to the company’s track record in publishing systems. The company already had sites running Web Order Entry, therefore it was a proven technology already operating in the marketplace. We have been extremely impressed with DTI’s professionalism and the ability to deliver the product on time and on schedule.”

A redesign of DTI’s standard templates was undertaken, which completely changed the look of the pages. Features of the system include the integration of live online credit transactions. Also, images are collected, checked, converted in the templates and loaded directly to the database, with multiple formats displayed instantly in the browser.

Mark Lawlor, Managing Director, Internet Ireland, continued: “As the leading Irish newspaper publisher, our digital strategy is geared to ensure that our customers get access to the most relevant, beneficial and secure applications online. Our business ethos is grounded in not just adopting the latest technology but more importantly the most beneficial. Independent’s provision of the PlaceMyAd.ie service sees the perfect amalgam of quality print products with the best available technologies adopting simple, secure and user friendly interfaces.

“The PlaceMyAd.ie service is in an easy to use component of a much larger and more powerful digital suite of services that we will be offering our customers over the next eighteen months. While it is possible to be first to market, technically, we aim to deliver the best. We judge excellence by the correct balance of both”.

The Web Order Entry system is live now.
