PBS SOLUTIONS OPEN NEW SALES OPPORTUNITIES AT THE VANCOUVER ISLAND DIVISION OF BLACK PRESS
Cross–selling Capabilities Expected to Increase Classified Sales
Minneapolis, MN – November 20, 2006 – To increase classified ad sales and improve the readability of its ads, the Black Press/Vancouver Island Division, Victoria, BC, has licensed MediaPlus® Classified Advertising and MediaPlus® Pagination from Publishing Business Systems, North America’s leading source for integrated enterprise–wide newspaper business software systems.
“Our Vancouver Island Division has outdated classified technology and servers scattered throughout a vast geographical region” said Rick O’Connor, Chief Operating Officer, Black Press (BC). “PBS will provide our group with a centralized server, which means we can operate one main sales center. This will give our sales reps faster access to information, improving customer service. And the flexibility within MediaPlus Pagination will allow us to enhance the overall look, feel and readability of our classified ads.”
Black Press’ Vancouver Island papers expect to take advantage of the wide variety of extras and up–selling features within MediaPlus Classified Advertising. “Our objective is to increase classified sales and generate more revenue, something PBS solutions already accomplished with our Lower Mainland Group, formally Metro Valley Newspaper Group.”
Black Press serves four major newspaper regions in British Colombia: BC North, BC South, Vancouver Island and Lower Mainland. In addition, Black Press operates a group of newspapers in Alberta, based in Red Deer and another group in Washington based on Bainbridge Island. Black Press also publishes dailies in Honolulu and Akron, Ohio. The Vancouver Island Division consists of 18 award–winning community newspapers reaching more than 279,165 homes across Vancouver Island. The newspapers vary between dailies and weeklies, with the two largest newspapers being Victoria News Group, distributed twice a week with a circulation of 105,000, and the Nanaimo News Bulletin, published three times a week with a circulation of 33,000.
MediaPlus Classified Advertising offers nine up–selling options that automatically update the price of an ad as options are selected. Increasing lineage is made easy by providing classified sales representatives with on–screen sales tips for soliciting additional information from customers. MediaPlus Classified Advertising gives the sales representative the ability to schedule priority placements, send e–mail proofs and view a record of past placements by the customer.
MediaPlus Classified Advertising, available with Oracle® or Microsoft® SQL database compatibility, is being installed on SQL for Black Press/Vancouver Island Division.
