VENTURA COUNTY STAR SELECTS PBS MEDIAPLUS® CLASSIFIED ADVERTISING SOFTWARE
New System Expected to Increase Print and Online Classified Sales While Enhancing Reporting Capabilities
Minneapolis, MN – March 16, 2006 – To increase print and online classified sales and improve a host of reporting capabilities, the Ventura County Star, Ventura, Calif., is licensing MediaPlus® Classified Advertising from Publishing Business Systems, North America’s leading source for integrated enterprise-wide newspaper business software systems. The newspaper is already a licensee of PBS MediaPlus® Circulation and MediaPlus® Ad Management.
“The suite of PBS software systems will provide management with integrated reporting and tracking capabilities for circulation and display and classified advertising,” said Tim Gallagher, president and publisher. “Integrated information provides a compelling solution for the challenge of putting out six editions and a Spanish language product.”
Darlene Frank, classified director, said, “The ability to receive real–time updates on critical sales information will allow us to be more responsive to our customers’ needs, and will enhance our overall classified management.”
The Ventura County Star, daily circulation 98,550, is a member of the Scripps family of newspapers — the nation’s ninth largest newspaper chain. Scripps Newspapers include daily and community newspapers in 18 markets and the Washington-based Scripps Media Center, home to the Scripps Howard News Service.
The MediaPlus® classified system makes it easy for service representatives to sell ads — quickly and accurately.
MediaPlus Classified Advertising offers nine up-selling options and automatically revises the price of the ad as options are selected. The software provides classified sales representatives with on-screen sales tips for soliciting additional information from customers, which can increase lineage. MediaPlus Classified Advertising gives the sales representative the ability to schedule priority placements, send e-mail proofs, view a record of past placements by the customer, and know whether the customer is a subscriber. Initiating a new subscription is accomplished by a click of a mouse.
In addition to MediaPlus Classified Advertising, the Ventura County Star is licensing PBS MediaPlus® Pagination, Layout, and iServices Order Entry. Pagination and Layout extend deadlines so there is more time to sell. iServices Order Entry offers customers everything they need to easily create and submit their classified ads online, and a partnership with Admission Corporation (formerly iPIX) facilitates the upload and manipulation of digital photos.
“Increasingly, people prefer to work in the online classified world,” added John Kunze, digital media director. “MediaPlus® iServices Order Entry will provide us with a strong platform for meeting this need.”
MediaPlus Classified Advertising, available with Oracle® or Microsoft® SQL database compatibility, is being installed on SQL for the Ventura County Star.
