DTI Launches Liquid Media Publishing Suite
A new web content management solution and post–relational database are the two most significant advancements in the suite – the evolution of which represents a fundamental departure from print–centric publishing toward a publishing model wherein the liquidity of content is paramount.
April 1, 2006 (Nexpo, Chicago) Digital Technology International announces the completion of its Liquid Media publishing suite, which consists of the following solutions: NewsSpeed 6, AdSpeed 6, ClassSpeed 6 and WebSpeed, all running on the Cachè multi–dimensional database.
The suite enables what DTI CEO Don Oldham describes as the Liquid Publishing™ model.
“The thirst for news is not declining,&rd he explains, “it is changing. The need for advertisers to reach customers is not declining – it is changing. And it is changing in ways that do not favor print–only media. Liquid news flows wherever readers are – reading newspapers, browsing online, using mobile devices, or whatever is next – and assumes the appropriate format. Liquid advertising flows where advertisers need it to, to reach their required audiences. It gets to where the customers are, in print, online, podcasting, etc. It encompasses everything from the ad orders to the ad content to the ad delivery, linking them all together with patented technology to deliver optimum results.”
The evolution of this platform has taken several years, and has reached maturity with the two most recent innovations – advanced web publishing and the availability of the applications on the Cachè database.
WebSpeed, DTI’s new Web Content Management (WCM) system, is the latest solution to be added to the suite. There are two parts to DTI–s WebSpeed solution: the client application, and the content management database.
The WebSpeed client application consists of the tools the designers and editors use to create dynamic web page templates and manage the presentation of the content. DTI tapped Norwegian technology company Escenic for a robust toolset that was designed for news media, and had already been installed at over 250 news sites.
St. Petersburg Times is the first U.S. newspaper installing WebSpeed, along with a 530 seat NewsSpeed solution.
The Cachè database supporting DTI’s NewsSpeed and WebSpeed is the foundation for the synergy between print and Web content. Editors can manage the breaking news and frequent updates expected of a news portal, with Web specific functionality, but without having to move content between disparate systems.
Cachè is a post–relational database. Current relational database technology is 25 years old, and was invented before there was an Internet, before digital media, and before the explosion of multi–media content. Cachè has Internet capability designed in. Its liquid (multi–dimensional) architecture is ideal for handling the volumes of digital media that can choke traditional databases.
‘All over the world newspapers have been making the shift from publishing exclusively in print, to becoming news media organizations trying to reach readers wherever they want their news,” says David Oldham, VP Marketing and Product Management for DTI. “DTI’s new system provides the Liquid Media foundation this new approach to publishing requires, and will adapt to the rapid changes that will sink those whose content is fragmented across collections of print and Web solutions.”
