THE HUNTSVILLE TIMES INSTALLS PBS MEDIAPLUS® CIRCULATION

Increased Circulation, Reduced Expenses and Greater Revenue Expected

Minneapolis, MN – February 13, 2006 – Publishing Business Systems, North America’s leading source for integrated enterprise–wide newspaper business software systems, today announced that The Huntsville Times has licensed PBS MediaPlus® Circulation and MediaPlus® Circulation InSight. Also licensed are MediaPlus® InsertPlus and MediaPlus® List MatchPlus.

The Huntsville Times, which serves northern Alabama and the Tennessee River Valley, has a paid daily circulation of 57,968. The paper publishes a number of free publications: Homes for Today, House to Home, Better Health & Living, Redstone Rocket and Initiatives, a magazine for the local chamber of commerce. The Huntsville Times is part of Advance Publications, a privately held communications company.

Like many papers, The Huntsville Times had an aging circulation system it could no longer support. "We wanted a state–of–the–art system that would help us better target our paid and unpaid products, as well as our preprints," said Frank Maier, circulation director, The Huntsville Times. "The PBS solutions we’re implementing will also make it easier for our advertisers to reach the right households in the right neighborhoods."

MediaPlus Circulation is a comprehensive, revenue–generating system that expertly manages the entire circulation business cycle from processing subscriber information to delivering the newspaper, while Circulation InSight is a robust analysis and reporting application that uses circulation data to help newspapers understand and grow their business.

The Huntsville Times also licensed InsertPlus and List MatchPlus. InsertPlus takes the complexity out of insert planning and delivery; List MatchPlus makes it easy to upload demographic and other data for prospecting, direct marketing and more.

"PBS products outshine those of the competition," said Martha Reichold, production director, The Huntsville Times. "In addition, some of our sister papers are already using PBS solutions. That means there are others within our organization to whom we can turn for advice and with whom we can share best practices."

The Huntsville Times also selected PBS because of its excellent implementation process. "Our PBS reps are very well prepared," said Reichold. "They’re not bossy, but they are persistent, which is making the transition much smoother."

In addition to helping The Huntsville Times reduce costs and improve processes, the PBS solutions give the paper more timely access to data, including trends. "As a result, we’re able to make immediate changes and adjustments," explained Maier.

"When a newspaper is able to break down barriers between departments, people begin to share their most valuable asset, which is information," said PBS President Ron Bernier. "When that happens, the paper itself becomes more successful."

MediaPlus Circulation, available with Oracle® or Progress database compatibility, is being installed on Progress for The Huntsville Times.
