Cox Newspapers Inc. Selects Next Generation Web Content Management System from DTI
April 1, 2006 (Nexpo – Chicago) Cox Newspapers Inc., has signed a contract to rollout WebSpeed, DTI’s Web content management (WCM) solution, at all 17 of its daily newspapers.
WebSpeed combines DTI’s Liquid Media™ integration platform with a robust web publishing toolset from Escenic of Oslo, Norway. Deployment of WebSpeed will be handled through a partnership between DTI, Escenic, and COXnet, which provides comprehensive Web site support to all Cox newspapers.
“In addition to DTI, we spent a lot of time with Escenic top management, and are confident that this is a choice that will provide the best possible content management solution for Cox papers,” said Leon Levitt, vice president of digital media for Cox Newspapers. “They understand the newspaper business, and they are anxious for a close, mutually beneficial relationship with Cox.”
Cox, like most newspaper companies, is striving to further leverage their stronghold in news by expanding their reach into multiple distribution channels.
“The scalability of the system and experience in handling large volumes of newspaper content and feeds, the adaptability in handling other types of content, as well as, the ability to feed multiple devices, pdas, cell phones etc. are key reasons it was selected,” said John Reetz, general manager of COXnet.
WebSpeed is a key part of DTI’s Liquid Media publishing platform, which maintains the liquidity of news and advertising content so it can simultaneously serve multiple print, Web and mobile products, assuming the format appropriate to each media type.
Integration with print was also a major factor. Cox uses DTI publishing solutions for editorial and advertising throughout its newspapers. By standardizing on WebSpeed they will be able to capitalize on the common architecture for greater synergy between print and on–line content. Content will flow easily from one system to the other while maintaining relational links.
“DTI and Cox have been strong development partners through the years, and have a history that spans more than a decade of working closely together on significant pagination projects for editorial and advertising,” said Reetz. “Adding Escenic to the relationship brings us new Web capabilities, and new opportunities for delivery of digital data.”
“Cox Newspapers is a valuable partner for DTI, and has been very influential in the evolution of our technology. They have been a leader in implementing unified publishing solutions for print throughout their newspapers. We look forward to building upon this successful foundation as they move to this next generation web publishing solution,” says DTI CEO Don Oldham.
“The COXnet Web project is a definitive breakthrough for the relationship between Escenic and DTI. We are extremely pleased to have one of the leading media technology companies as a partner and are looking forward to a close cooperation between COXnet, DTI and Escenic during the installation process,” said Øyvind Ørbæk, Escenic’s CEO.
While the first newspaper to install WebSpeed has yet to be decided upon, Cox plans to complete several installations before the end of the year.
