JOURNAL PUBLISHING COMPANY LICENSES MEDIAPLUS® CIRCULATION MANAGEMENT SOFTWARE

PBS selected as the single provider to replace three individual systems

Chicago, IL, – March 9, 2004 – Publishing Business Systems (PBS), North America’s leading source for integrated enterprise newspaper business software systems, announced today that the Journal Publishing Company has licensed its MediaPlus® Circulation Management software suite. Journal Publishing owns The Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal and the North Mississippi Community Newspapers, a collection of weekly publications. The combined circulation of Journal Publishing’s papers exceeds 51,000.

As the fastest growing newspaper in Mississippi, the Daily Journal is looking for MediaPlus Circulation Management to help support and continue their growth. The newspaper plans to take advantage of the software’s customer relationship management (CRM) tools to drive new database marketing efforts and effectively communicate to defined segments within their market. According to Hamp Rogers, Circulation Director, “We wanted a single system that could manage our distribution needs and help us identify new subscription opportunities. And, not only does PBS offer opportunities to support and manage our growth, but they offer it within a proven, reliable system.”

MediaPlus Circulation Management includes Target Marketing, a feature that Journal Publishing can use to segment their market by household or lifestyle demographics to generate targeted marketing campaigns. Target Marketing aids in the distribution of these campaigns (by direct mail, telemarketing, or e–mail delivery), and helps to measure the results by tracking and analyzing campaign activity.

In addition to Target Marketing, Journal Publishing will also benefit from value–added applications including Insert Management software for the coordination of preprints; List Matching, a utility that will enable Journal Publishing to import outside lists and demographic information into the MediaPlus Circulation Management system; MediaPlus.Online for subscriber self–services, and MediaPlus Circulation InSight business intelligence software to analyze and plan circulation growth.

Bill Reid, Director of Information Systems for Journal Publishing describes another advantage of MediaPlus Circulation Management, “In the past, we’ve had the challenge of getting three separate systems – from three different vendors – to operate efficiently together to support our business needs. With PBS, we have one system that manages everything and has the flexibility to accommodate our needs as we continue to grow.” In their vendor review, Journal Publishing performed exhaustive due diligence including reference checks and visits to similar newspapers with PBS systems installed. Hamp Rogers summarized their findings; “We see this as an investment in our future. We wanted to partner with a company that was stable, reliable, and had a proven track record in the industry. The clear choice for us was PBS.”
