DTI Announces New Event Management Solution
June 19, 2004 (Springville, UT) Digital Technology International (DTI) today announced a new XML–based event listings management and pagination solution, EventSpeed. This new application transforms the way newspapers handle listings and gives publishers an easy way to automate the publishing of listings in print and online. A database–centered solution, EventSpeed offers newspaper staff and outside contributors alike a means of efficiently managing listings in one system.
“Newspapers have always been an essential source of local information for their communities. With their unique role in the communities they serve, newspapers can maintain this niche and even strengthen this role by leveraging their online presence as well,” said Alyson O. Williams, Marketing Director for DTI. “DTI’s EventSpeed is the tool to help newspapers effectively manage more information than they can today, and do it more efficiently for multiple media.”
Processing all the event listing information publishers receive via fax, email, mail, and electronic transmission from theaters, museums, exhibitions and various community service groups is extremely time consuming. Often the information has to be processed manually and, in many cases, more than once. Additionally, there is not space in the printed publication to publish information on every event. Publishers realize the value of this information to their readers but often don’t have the tools necessary to gather it and make it accessible in all of the different ways readers have come to expect.
EventSpeed makes it easy to publish listings in multiple formats such as special sections and the Internet. EventSpeed uses XML tags, which allows the same content to be applied to multiple layouts or even multiple media like the Internet or hand held devices. The XML tags facilitate simple and powerful sorting and searching of event data using diverse criteria such as event type, location, or date. The efficiency of automating the layout of the event information to both print and electronic formats is also due to XML.
EventSpeed allows any authorized individual to enter event information using an Internet browser. This means third parties such as theaters, museums and other community organizations can enter their own information. Simple, well–designed forms prompt the person entering the listing as to what information might be important and where to enter it.
As newspapers gather community event and venue information using EventSpeed, they build an information rich reference database. This information can then be used in many different ways. It can be used as a source of info in writing reviews, or automatically paginated in a new format to create special tourist and restaurant guides.
EventSpeed allows newspapers to create new products around these listings that can become a significant source of new advertising revenue. Because of the built–in automation, these products can be produced quickly with existing staff. Similarly, automated publishing of event listings on the Internet can enhance the local relevancy of a newspaper’s Web site.
EventSpeed is a stand–alone solution that is completely compatible with DTI’s PageSpeed pagination solution, as well as most other page layout applications.
