Who they are: The Register-Guard is a family owned newspaper in Eugene, Oregon, with a daily circulation of more than 70,000. Having been a DTI customer for over 12 years, The Register-Guard knew who to turn to when they needed innovative ways to adjust and excel in today's news industry, as well as leverage them in the future market.

"All of our core technology is with the DTI system," said Carl Davaz, Register-Guard deputy managing editor. "The nature of DTI is about being more productive."

What they needed: The Register-Guard needed better integration, and an upgrade from their current system. They wanted a more fluid and efficient way to publish to multiple media targets in real-time. They expected a streamlined process, with the ability to publish to the Web before the print side. With DTI's new Version 7 release, they got the best suited product for their needs.

DTI Solutions: Version 7 delivers a host of revolutionary browser-based tools that gives the Register-Guard power to combine their print and Web from one unified suite of DTI applications. DTI's ContentPublisherTM and DTI LightningTM take advantage of trailblazing technology, including the complete Adobe CS3 suite that fully supports standard XML. In addition, Version 7 gives The Register-Guard better functionality, when content management, flexibility, and stability are core necessities for any news organization to remain competitive.

DTI Lightning manages the seamless flow of content from a full spectrum of available sources of news content, including local and remote writers, citizen journalists, wire feeds and media contributors to The Register-Guard for publication to print and Web.

"We now publish straight to the Web first, with just one keystroke," Davaz added. "It's actually an easier process. We can now spend our focus on high design and the presentation of our newspaper as DTI has enhanced our ability to be so much more creative and multi-task."

The Register-Guard is now able to update local events such as Oregon Duck games, or election results in real time, with on-site or workstation reporting.

"DTI Version 7 totally rocks!" said Jim Godbold, Register Guard associate editor. "From the initial wordsmith process to Web publication, the seamless integration allows us to squeeze more creative minutes out of every hour, and it's already making our newspaper better."
